Purple People Peter Dalrymple is the point man for Royal Purple. As Vice President of Sales, Peter's responsibility is to introduce Royal Purple to the myriad of potential users of Royal Purple lubricants in the industrial market place. "Just about any business with a lubricant application is a potential customer," says Peter, "and my job is not so much sales, in the traditional sense, as it is problem solving and education. When you bring an idea to a customer that will save them money on maintenance, down time and energy consumption, it's not sales it's a solution to a business problem." Peter has been described as the "consummate salesman" in the positive sense. Like Will Rogers, he may never have met a man he didn't like, and his ability to relate to customers is an asset in understanding their company's needs. But his degree in Mechanical Engineering brings an additional dimension to his customer and distributor liaison responsibilities.
According to Royal Purple President John Williams, " Peter's technical training and his interpersonal skills are a perfect combination. He is capable of understanding the complicated applications required by our customers while effectively communicating with both dis-tributors and customers. Peter joined Royal Purple in 1988, and is currently responsible for factory direct and distributor sales.
He is a 1965 graduate of Norwich University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.

18 year old Racing Sensation Wins in Englishtown Cristen Powell has accomplished two things high on her "to-do" list: graduate from Jesuit High School and win a Top Fuel Drag event.
The 18-year old rookie NHRA driver from Portland, OR, ended her senior year with a smashing victory in Englishtown, NJ driving her Royal Purple-sponsored top fuel dragster.
"We're proud of Cristen and the entire Team Scandia crew," said RP's marketing VP, Lee Culbertson. "We know our lubricants are giving her an edge in horsepower and reliability, and it shows in her performance."
Powell skipped her senior prom to race in the event, became the second-youngest person to win a Top Fuel event, and the youngest female to do it.
Cristen started in organized racing before she could legally drive on the streets of her hometown, and has won fans all over the country, during her two-year career. She has been featured by Sports Illustrated, National Dragster, CNN and Inside Edition.
Her association with Royal Purple lubricants began as she stepped up to drag racing's premiere eventTop Fuel, where engine performance is measured by computer readouts, and every advantage is sought.
Royal Purple racing oils have consistently provided incremental increases in horsepower, and fuel efficiency, and have become the choice lubricants of hundreds of leading pit crews, from Indy, to regional and local tracks.

Royal Purple & Team Scandia Win At Sebring Royal Purple sponsored Team Scandia, captured the SUPERFLO 12 HOURS at Sebring International Raceway in Florida on March 15 and just missed a victory in the Professional Sports Car Racing, Inc. season opener at Daytona last month,.
The winning #3 Scandia/Royal Purple/Alta/Xcel Ferrari 333SP, which started from the pole when Yannick Dalmas set a Sebring track record in qualifying, was co-driven by Dalmas, Andy Evans, Stefan Johansson and Fermin Velez. Both Dalmas and Johansson were making their Scandia debuts at Sebring. The victory was the second for both Evans and Velez in three years at Sebring as Scandia won the event in 1995, and finished second a year ago. It is also the second Sebring victory for Johannson.
The Royal Purple lubricated Ferrari had no mechanical difficulties throughout the grueling 12 hour race with the exception of a punctured tire on the first lap when the car was bumped from behind. But the Scandia/Royal Purple team made a quick pit stop, worked its way back to the front of the field and traded the lead with the Dyson team throughout the day, before taking the lead for good during a 10th hour restart.
The final margin of victory, 47.46 seconds, was the third closest in history. "It's the closest race I've ever seen," said Evans. "I have to say to these drivers they are the best, and they beat the best. It is a match that will go down in history."

ROYAL PURPLE/JAPAN HOLDS 3RD ANNUAL MEETING Royal Purple Japan held its 3rd annual sales meeting in the resort city of Ito, Japan on April 10 & 11.
The meeting was hosted by Jerry Neely, Fred Perry and Mr. Sasaki of Cross Pacific Marketing and attended by Lee Culbertson of Royal Purple, Inc.
The 35 attendees, which included dealers and key customers, received two days of technical and marketing education. According to Jerry Neely, "In addition to the formal information, one of the major benefits of the meeting was the opportunity for the distributors to share success stories." For example, one distributor related his experience with a rubber plant. The Japanese government was forcing closure of the plant due to noise pollution created by its giant Banbury mixers. The noise was reduced so dramatically by simply changing to Royal Purple lubricants that the government mandated and closing was avoided.
Max-Chain is also a real hit in Japan. One major auto manu-facturer uses it on conveyor chains and to spray individual parts of machinery being disassembled for repair. It has stopped all rusting problems, even when equipment is down for prolonged periods.
Max-Chain is packaged in spray bottles, which are kept and used in several areas within the plant. In the steel industry, Kobe Steel is using Royal Purple Wire Rope Lube in mist-lubricating a conveyor system, and other steel companies are using Syn-Max.
Royal Purple Japan's list of major industrial customers now numbers more than 300 and is growing. They also have a solid base of winners in Motor Sports which will be enhanced by the synergism with Royal Purple's new IMSG associates.
During his trip to Japan, Royal Purple, Inc.'s Lee Culbertson also visited customers in Kobe, Osaka and Nagoya during which he developed problem solving recommendations for companies such as giant ABB (Swiss), Mitsubishi Electric and Sumitomo Heavy Industries.
According to Culbertson, not only are the Japanese distributors good business partners, but were also excellent hosts and provided a friendly open atmosphere. "Aside from an outstanding business atmosphere some of the highlights of the trip were on the social side," said Culbertson. "The traditional Japanese dinner seated on tatami mats was a real treat, not to mention the marvelous hot springs baths."

MAGAZINE ARTICLE HIGHLIGHTS ADVANCED LUBRICANTS AS A SOURCE OF OPERATING SAVINGS "Operating costs can be reduced significantly by using proper lubrication practices and by using one the newer high-film-strength synthetic oils.
Savings are achieved by reducing electrical power consumption, maintenance costs, and machinery downtime."
So says the Maintenance Log column in the April issue of Maintenance Technology Magazine in an article co-authored by Royal Purple's Lee Culbertson and Heinz Bloch, consultant with Process Machinery Consulting.
As Royal Purple customers prove over and over again, high film strength synthetic oils produce energy and maintenance savings that far exceed the initial cost of the oil.
When looking at the big picture, it clearly becomes evident that upgrading lubricant quality is not only the easiest, but also one of the most cost effective means for plants to save money.
The article points out, what Royal Purple customers have known all along. That Royal Purple makes equipment run smother, quieter, longer and more efficiently.

ROYAL PURPLE MOTOR OIL COMING TO RETAIL SHELVES IN NEAR FUTURE Royal Purple, Inc. has finalized its contract with IMSG (International Motorsports Speedway Group Inc.)to form a new company, Royal Purple Motor Oil, Inc.(RPMO). RPMO is off to a fast start in its plans to take Royal Purple's high technology auto lubricants to the retail market.
Jim Dunn, formerly Product Manager for Apple MacIntosh's Power PC, has been named president of RPMO. Jim is in the process of assembling his staff and formulating marketing and distribution plans with a target of being on retail shelves later this year.
"This is really an exciting opportunity," says Dunn. " We will be concentrating on both racing and retail."
With the formation of Royal Purple Motor Oil, Inc., there are now three different companies targeting three separate markets distributing Royal Purple branded products: RPMO for the racing and retail markets, Royal Purple Transportation Marketing serving commercial fleets under the Long Rider brand and Royal Purple, Inc. concentrating on all types of industrial applications.
"Collectively, we have excellent market visibility and our competitors are taking note."

"Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" That's an old saying on the racing circuit, and it points out the importance of motor sports programs to Royal Purple. There's no better test of automotive lubrication products than competitive racing. What we learn in the lab is proven on the track, and brought to market to benefit our entire customer base. So, wave the checkered flag ...it's good for business.
